The world premiere run of Flying Lessons took place in Alexandria, Virginia May 17, 2003 through June 8, 2003 in the amphitheatre of the landmark George Washington Masonic National Memorial.

The live performances of Flying Lessons were listed as a "best bet" on the WETA-FM (National Public Radio) cultural calendar as one of the personal "best bets" of the Washington Post's Jane Horwitz. For other reactions to the staged version of Flying Lessons, click here.

All sixteen performances were dedicated to the victims and survivors of the September 11 attacks, and all gross receipts were donated to benefit the Pentagon and Flight 77 families and survivors.

The performances were produced by Natural Theatricals in association with Fivepoints Productions. The original cast included Paula Alprin, Cate Archuleta, Nancy Woodworth Carr, Yvonne Chen, Amy Miharu Hard, Caroline G. Pleasant, and Linda Williams. The director was Brian Alprin and the Ms. of Ceremonies was Zareen M. Isaac.
